  The front of the postcard is decorated by the picture of a thistle wrapped in a tartan bow with the words 'Should auld acquaintance be forgot' inscribed on the top of the postcard. In the message Daniel thanks his mother and sisters for their letters and notes how May Windle wrote him a letter and sent him a box of cigarettes.
