  In his third letter from France, Daniel writes that he has been moved closer to the firing line. Daniel also writes about his daily routines and how they are similar to Tain. Throughout the letter Daniel continually expresses his concern that he has not received a reply from his mother. Contained within the envelope was a field service postcard addressed to Jenny McFarlane. This postcard has pre-printed details which are to be filled in by the sender. The envelope is marked active service.
