Scope and Content
Individual items and smaller accessions donated to the University of Stirling Library since the University's opening in 1967. Some of the material consists of papers and ephemera which accompanied donation of book collections to the University Library. Also includes individual documents and small collections of papers purchased / donated to the library prior to the establishment of the University Archives. Larger archive collections which originally were accessioned as part of the MS series have been removed from the series and given their own individual collection reference numbers.
Items include examples of seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth century correspondence; local history material relating to Bridge of Allan, Stirling and Kippen; unpublished memoirs of James Clunie MP; research papers relating to Sir Walter Scott; A History of the Stirling Tract Enterprise by Peter Drummond; personal papers of the journalist Eden Phillpotts relating to work in India (1931-1942) and the works of the author Eden Phillpotts; ‘Wheel Wanderings’, a manuscript account of a cycling trip across Scotland undertaken by John and George Macgregor in July 1893; Notebook containing notes written by Ebenezer Johnson, founder of the Stirling Observer newspaper, providing accounts of local news and events (1836); letters and papers of literary figures including Robert Southey (1774-1843), George Crabbe (1754-1832), Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894), Ezra Pound (1885-1972); Naomi Mitchison (1897-1999); Philip Larkin (1922-1985).
