  Court books and court minute books, 1507-1685 (fragmentary), 1547-1847 (incomplete).

  Note:- It is recommended that the 16th - 17th cent. Court Books should be examined in conjunction with the Register of Decreets for the period.

• Administrative / Biographical History

  Burgh courts dealt with matters in dispute between burgh inhabitants such as small debts and verbal assault. Burgh court books were also often used to record other council business such as burgh statutes and ordinances, and elections to the council.
