Scope and Content
Voyage account books for steam ships owned by the company. Each volume typically records: voyage number, voyage date(s), ports of call, costs expended on stores, victualling, repairs, pilotage, insurance, crew wages (includes name and rank) and earnings from cargo carried. A net profit or loss for each voyage is recorded. The first volume for each ship in most cases contains details of ship's 'first cost' and the ship's particulars at the front. Captains are named for most of the voyages throughout the series. Details of each captain's account with the owners can be found at the back of most volumes as listed.
