The Waterford Consortium was a container service consortium formed in 1964 through an agreement between the shipowning firms of Clyde Shipping Co Ltd , Glasgow, Scotland; Atlantic Steam Navigation Co Ltd , Preston, Lancashire, England; and George Bell & Co Ltd , Dublin, Ireland. The consortium was formed to operate the Preston-Waterford container service in which all three companies had an interest. The consortium was managed by the Clyde Shipping Co Ltd who provided staff for the harbour at Waterford, Munster, Ireland, and allowed the other consortium members to use their Scotch Derrick Crane at the harbour. Each company had a 1/3 share in the consortium and undertook a fidelity agreement not to operate outside of the consortium in the Ireland trade.
