Scope and Content
William Macmath, The Gordons of Craichlaw.
Typescript genealogical study of the male heirs of the house of Gordon to show that the male line was not extinct, as it had been claimed to be. An engraving of Paul Jones, founder of the American Navy, is loose within the volume.
This is the twelfth of eighteen typescript copies. Four copies were also produced in manuscript.
Administrative / Biographical History
The Gordons of Craichlaw were founded by William Gordon, second son of Sir John Gordon of Lochinvar. In the early 16th century he was given various grants of land by his father, including land in the barony of Craichlaw, in Wigtownshire. The house and estate became known as Craichlaw.
