Administrative / Biographical History
Aitken, McNeil & Co , engineers, was formed in 1881 in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland. The firm became known as John McNeil & Co in 1897 and had its works in Helen Street, Glasgow, producing machinery for the sugar refining trade. The firm was incorporated as John McNeil & Co Ltd in 1914 and entered into liquidation in 1960 when its goodwill was acquired by A & W Smith & Co Ltd , sugar machine manufacturers, Glasgow.
