• Scope and Content

  Correspondence between Jute Industries Ltd., Calcutta and Jute Industries Ltd., Dundee as to the proposed reconstruction of the factory, no. 7. Godown at Camperdown Jute Press, Cossipore, Calcutta, destroyed by fire, 1934, with estimates and tenders submitted by various engineering and building firms.
  Includes a series of blue prints [5] and plans [8] showing proposed reconstructions; cross sections, elevations, floor plans and alterations and repairs to the existing structure proposed by firms of; Mackintosh Burn Ltd., Calcutta and Brittannia Building Iron Co. Ltd., Architects,Calcutta. 1934. Also includes copies of expense accounts submitted to Jute Industries Ltd., by employees on business in France. [c.1940].

• Administrative / Biographical History

  Jute Industries Ltd was formed as a result of the amalgamation of many of the Dundee jute companies including Cox Brothers (Camperdown Works), Gilroy and Sons (Tay Works) and J and A D Grimond (Bowbridge Works), and was registered as a limited company in England in 1920.
  It changed its name to Sidlaw Industries Ltd in 1971 and to Sidlaw Group plc in 1981. Over the years the company moved away from jute into other interests. As of 2020 the company is still registered as active and is based in Bristol.
