Scope and Content
The University settlements created since the 1880s were organised into The Federation of Residential Settlements (FRS) in 1920. It changed its name to The British Association of Residential Settlements in 1927, and became affiliated to the International Federation of Settlements (founded 1926). A further name change occurred in 1967 to The British Association of Settlements, and then The British Association of Settlements and Social Action Centres in 1974. Its purpose was to represent the various University settlements, and, later, community centres throughout the country.
