Administrative / Biographical History
John L Mellott was a Canadian pilot who served in the Mediterranean theatre of operations with 682 and 683 Squadrons, Royal Air Force, during the Second World War. The aerial photographs in the collection were taken by John L Mellott whilst flying photographic reconnaissance sorties in Spitfire aircraft. The copies in the collection were taken home to Canada in late-1945.

The photographs were kept in John L Mellott's family until their formal transfer to NCAP by his son, John E Mellott, in March 2013.
