Administrative / Biographical History
The Greenock Hebrew Congregation was established in 1894 and in 1905, appointed Rev. Israel Tiemianka as minister. A synagogue was at one time located in Cathcart Street and there is a small Jewish section in Greenock cemetery, with around 15 burials. In 1911, there were over 100 Jewish people in the town, but just over 70 by 1921. The community was disbanded in 1936.
