Administrative / Biographical History
Through his friendship and correspondence with men such as Surgeon-General William Crawford Gorgas Ross kept in touch with progress on anti-malarial work throughout the world. When Gorgas was appointed to do such work in the Panama Canal Zone he invited Ross to visit the Canal Zone to inspect health conditions there at the expense of the Commission (L1/1/12). Ross had already decided to visit the World Fair being held in St. Louis in 1904 and so planned his visit to Panama to follow. He was again invited in 1907 but was unable to make a round trip. After his visit his correspondence with Gorgas and others continued.
