  The Ross Institute and Hospital for Tropical Diseases was formally opened in July 1926 after a three year campaign by Ross and his colleagues for sufficient funds to establish such an institution. The documents in this file pertain to the foundation of the Institute and to executive committee work and decisions until the year 1931.

  The Ross Institute was established to ‘supplement, rather than compete with these schools of Tropical Medicine; that its primary object should be research and not teaching; that a clinical establishment should be maintained in intimate conjunction with its laboratories; and that in it Ross – a naster mind – assisted by other experts in medical science, should have the fullest scope for the initiation and continuation of researches into the still unsolved problems’.
