Administrative / Biographical History
In 1902 Ross was asked by the President of the Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez, Prince Auguste d’Arenberg, for advice regarding the increase in cases of malaria in Ismailia. Accordingly in September 1902 Ross visited Ismailia and was so successful in his work that by 1903 ‘the town is practically free from mosquitoes which only a short time ago were very abundant’ (L 2/1/2). In 1909 Ross made a second visit to the town, after which he appears to have lost interest.
