• Scope and Content

  The Jardine Papers [The Signet Papers] are a bound series of printed historical miscellanea pertaining to the history of the Society of Writers to HM Signet, the Faculty of Advocates and the WS Society Widows' Fund.

  The Papers are named for lawyer and historian Sir Henry Jardine of Harwood WS (1766-1851), the son of the Reverend John Jardine (a pioneering historian whose papers relating to the 1745 Rebellion are on deposit from the WS Society at the National Records of Scotland) and the author of "A Report relative to the Tomb of King Robert the Bruce and the Cathedral Church of Dunfermline". The first volumes in the sequence carry Jardine's bookplate.
