Scope and Content
Privy seal used before the union of the Crowns. Integral seal tag.
The seal represents a shield bearing the royal arms of Scotland, ensigned of an arched crown. Supporters: two lions, the right hind leg of each extending into the border. The legend which is preceded by a thistle leaved and slipped, is between carved borders: SIGILLVM SECRETVM IACOBI 6 DEI GRATIA REGIS SCOTORVM.
The document is written on parchment in a formal bastard hand. The first letter is ornamented.
