Scope and Content
Miscellaneous papers, mainly relating to Robertson/Hercus family of Main Street, Kirkwall, 1916-c1960. Includes:Correspondence and related material concerning the service of Mrs Joey Tait's great uncle, Pte W C Robertson with the Seaforth Highlanders during World War I. It includes letters from him at the front and his wounding and subsequent death at Ypres in April 1918. Further correspondence indicates location of his grave and includes a photograph of it, 1916-1928; "The Last Voyage of the Margarethe", written in his old age by Peter Hercus, a seaman aged about 20 who was one of the crew. The Margarethe was a brigantine built in Norway and owned by Messrs S Reid and Co. Kirkwall.
