Administrative / Biographical History
The property at 2A, 4 and 4A, was sold by Robert Nicolson to Mrs Frances Balfour in 1810; the following month a further sasine granted it to her son Captain William Balfour. In 1870, James Work, trustee on the sequestrated estate of N.G. Balfour of Hescombe disponed it in favour of the Commissioners of Supply for the County of Orkney. The subjects were put to public roup in 1906 when they were purchased by James Wick. An extract registered trust disposition by James Wick dated 1925 was recorded in 1936 and in 1937 notice of title was granted in favour of James Flett, solicitor, Kirkwall. He disponed the property to Miss Ellen I.R. Sinclair the same year, and in 1944 she disponed it to J.R. Robertson. Notice of title was granted in 1971 to Maggie Bella Robertson who, dying without heirs, the property reverted to The Queen's and Lord Treasurer's Remembrancers who sold it to Mrs Mary Kemp or Hourie in 1985
