Scope and Content
Relating to grounding of Swedish vessel Helena on Papa Stronsay, 7th September 1745, while on a voyage from home port of Udewalla, near Gothenberg, Sweden, to Oporto in Portugal, with a cargo of iron and timber. The Helena was subsequently seized and taken to Dover by the naval vessel Shark, under the command of Captain Middleton, with regard to irregularities with her cargo. It subsequently emerged, after the ship had been searched, that Lars Hagberg, master of the Helena, while at the house of Patrick Fea of Kirbister, in Stronsay, had been approached by the wife of Patrick Fea of Airy, who was suspected of being a Jacobite sympathiser, with regard to the possibility of conveying her husband to Oporto, thus avoiding arrest.
