Administrative / Biographical History
The John Elphinstone-Fyffe collection was gifted to the Orkney Archive in November 1976 by Mrs. Elphinstone-Fyffe. John Elphinstone-Fyffe was a descendant of both the Baikie and Traill families of Orkney and consequently a relative of the explorer W.B. Baikie. The papers are concerned predominantly with the Baikie family and particularly Captain John Baikie R.N., (d. 1875), landwaiter in Kirkwall and founder agent of the first bank in Kirkwall.
