Scope and Content
Donald Campbell 1783-1860s. He was commissioned into the Marines and took part in the battle of Trafalgar, aboard H.M.S. Agamemnon. He resigned his commission in 1813. Thereafter he managed various estates in Morvern before, nearing his 60s, he became factor to Hugh Maclean of Coll whose estates at that time included Quinish, Penmore and Dervaig together with crofts on the islands of Coll, Muck, Tiree and Rum. He was agent for Lloyds and involved in land valuation for the building of Ardnamurchan lighthouse. Commentary on these matters and his regime as estate factor during the years of the potato famine can be found in an article by Pat James in Bulletin no. 3 (April 2001)
