Administrative / Biographical History
Under the terms of the Poor Law (Scotland) Act 1845 (8 & 9 Vict., c.83) groups of parishes could combine in order to provide indoor relief for the poor. They built poorhouses in order to house the poor who could not work or were too young to work.
Atholl, Weem and Breadalbane Combination was formed in 1859 and covered the parishes of Dull, Weem, Blair Atholl, Logierait, Fortingall, Moulin, Killin, Kenmore, Little Dunkeld and Dowally. A poorhouse was built at Logierait and opened in 1864. In 1948 when poorhouses were abolished, the building was renamed the Cuil-An-Daraich Home and retained under part III of the National Assistance Act 1948, as residential accommodation for old, infirm, or handicapped persons.
