Administrative / Biographical History
This school was opened in 1876 and was originally known as Springburn Public School. The Infant Department was renamed Victoria School in 1888 while the Mixed School was called Albert Public from 1889. The Higher Grade Department, opened in 1907, was also initially called Springburn Public, but changed its name to Albert shortly thereafter. It should be noted that this school, administered by Springburn School Board until 1911, should not be confused with Springburn Public School (D-ED7/282), which was the responsibility of Glasgow School Board. It would appear that in the period between 1876 and 1889 there were two schools known as Springburn Public, administered by two different school boards.
