Scope and Content
Includes Air Raid Precaution and Civil Defence wardens contact list (D-HE4/8/1); Civil Defence photograph albums (D-HE4/8/2-3); Portraits of Council members (D-HE4/8/4); Photographs of various Ambulance Presentations (D-HE4/8/5-25, 28-30, 34); Photographs of other presentations, staff and the City Chambers (D-HE4/8/26-27, 31-33, 35-50); Guidance Notes for Doctors Teaching Mass Casualty Care (D-HE4/8/51).
During the Second World War, the Public Health Department undertook additional duties relating to the care of the wounded and Air Raid Precautions (ARP). These included staffing first aid posts, medical inspection of evacuated children and ambulance services. Dr James Dunlop was the ARP Medical Officer.
The two photograph albums are not captioned but many of the images are duplicated in the loose captioned photographs that follow. Some of the loose photographs were originally in a wallet in the back of the second album (D-HE/4/8/3). Some of the photographs in D-HE/7 were also in the album but are unrelated to civil defence.
