Scope and Content
For most of this period the major sub-committees were bundled with the main committee. At other times they were kept apart so the bundles are not always in strictly chronological order. Subject filing replaced committee bundles and these are at D-TC8/16B. After 1948, the committee was named the Health and Welfare Committee.
Until 1919, the bundles are by the date of the meeting of the Committee on Health and when papers are included for sub-committees this is given in the entry. Not all sub-committees have related papers and not all items discussed in the minutes have related papers. Some of the papers for the Sub-Committee on Hospitals, at D-TC8/16/289-306, were kept separately from the other papers and were added after the 1901-1910 cataloguing had been done. Applications for posts at hospitals were not retained. The papers for 1908 and 1909 are generally less well ordered. After 1919 the bundles are often arranged monthly rather than by meeting and are much less ordered.
The dates covered are 1900-1907 (not July 1903), 1908 (part), 1909-1916 (not July 1910 or December 1916), 1917 (part), 1918-1921 (not August 1921), 1922 (part), 1923-1927, September - December 1932, November 1935 and April 1936. The bundles were largely chronological but sometimes a collection of papers for a meeting appeared out of sequence.
