Smoke Reports

Scope and Content
The volumes give the same information as the smoke registers (D-HE/4/4/4): the name and address of the firm; number type and size of the boilers; grate area and coal consumption; kind of coal used; hp [horsepower] of boilers and working pressure; dimensions of chimney; size and hp of engines; firemen in charge of furnaces; apparatus in use for smoke prevention; smoke charts; supposed cause of excess smoke; warnings given and dates; and convictions in police court. Not all fields populated. Being smaller, these were possibly the volumes used by the inspectors in the field with the information later transferred into the registers.
