Scope and Content
Sir Alexander Macgregor was appointed Medical Officer of Health in 1925, having held positions in infectious disease at the Belvidere Fever Hospital, and as assistant to the Medical Officer of Health. He retained this position until his retirement in 1946.
The files in this series were kept separately from the files at D-HE/1/9 and used by MacGregor for his own papers. The papers represent work he undertook in his professional capacity and his roles in other organisations such as the Society of Medical Officers of Health. Files on similar topics have been catalogued together but separate series have not been created as it is not known how he kept his files. Papers in the files may not necessarily be by MacGregor but he would have received them in the course of his work, often from colleagues within the department. For articles by MacGregor or possibly collected by him (as evidenced by his initials ASMM) can be found at D-HE/6/7.
Two files on Air Raid Precautions from the circulars series were found amongst these papers and have been catalogued in their original series (see D-HE/1/9/2/24-25).
