Scope and Content
This section includes records from two different administrative structures. Prior to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1929 parish councils and district boards of control administered hospitals and asylums. After the Act their functions transferred to the Corporation. The health and welfare functions were split into separate Public Assistance and Public Health committees and departments. In 1949 the Corporation amalgamated Public Health and Welfare to form the Health and Welfare Department.
The section includes: Abstract of Accounts of the Glasgow Lunacy District Board, 1912 (D-HE3/1); Corporation of Glasgow Public Assistance Department - Estimates Yearly and Half-Yearly Annual Accounts, 1930 – 1967 (D-HE3/2); Corporation of the City of Glasgow Abstract of the Welfare Accounts, 1950 – 1955 (D-HE3/3); Abstracts of the Accounts of the Govan Combination Hospital Board, 1892 – 1912 (D-HE3/4); Abstract of the Accounts of Glasgow Parish Council, Glasgow District Board of Control, Govan Combination Parish Council and Govan District Board of Control, Edinburgh Parish Council and Edinburgh District Board of Control, 1926 – 1930 (D-HE3/5); Ledger - Sanitary Department, 1915 - 1923 (D-HE3/6).
