Scope and Content
The file is concerned with the sanitary condition of premises used for fowl killing in the Gorbals. It includes: inspector's reports on premises; description of the kosher slaughtering; list of premises engaged in the activity; copies of letters sent to premises; letter from the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council; report on proposed new premises; report on the same issues for wards 26-27 and 33-37; letter with accusation of anti-semitism, 30th April 1930; and memo to the veterinary surgeon and sanitary inspector to take Rabbi Morgenstern on an inspection, 16th February 1939. This file was sent to Andrew Jackson, the City Archivist, in March 1996 by the Environmental Health Deaparment but not accessioned. A colleague of the Director had found the item when clearing their office for retirement and it was sent to archives for appraisal.
