Scope and Content
According to the introduction, the handbook was prepared for members attending the Sanitary Institute Congress held in Glasgow in July 1904. It has chapters on the following Corporation departments: Art Galleries and Museums; Parks; Libraries; City Improvements and Model Lodging Houses; Public Health with sections on Medical Officer of Health, Sanitary Inspector, Bacteriological, Chemical and Veterinary; Sewage; Baths and Wash Houses; Office of Public Works; Cleansing; Gas; Water; Electricity; Tramways; Markets; Telephones; Fire; Lighting; Inebriates' Reformatory; Weights and Measures; and Labour Bureau. Illustrations include plans of Belvidere Hospital, Ruchill Hospital, Reception House, pavilion at Robroyston Hospital and the Bacteriological Laboratory; and photographs of disinfection of clothes, sanitary wash house, Whitevale Baths, sweeping into street bins etc.
