Scope and Content
It is not known how the Department kept their photographs so this is an artificial series. The photographs that relate directly to functions of the Department have been catalogued within the relevant sections. This section also includes the large glass negative collection transferred by the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board Archives.
The section includes Photographs, c1870 – 1960 (D-HE7/1); Negatives,1922 – 1955 (D-HE7/2); Lantern slides, 1900 - 1955 (D-HE7/3).
It should be noted that a large number of Public Health Department photographs were incorporated into the 'P' photographs catalogue which is available to consult in the Glasgow City Archives search room. Photograph numbers which are definitely part of the Department's collection include 4337-4345 and 5001-6194.
