These photographs include ships of the Elder Dempster Line , Cunard Line , Clyde Passenger Ferries . There are also views of the following Clyde shipyards: Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd , Burns & Laird, John Brown & Co (Clydebank) Ltd , Charles Connell & Co Ltd , Barclay Curle & Co Ltd and Govan Shipbuilders Ltd .

The collection was brought together by the archivist of Glasgow University and represents several small deposits of photographs depicting ships on the river Clyde.
