Administrative / Biographical History
A private donor generously established the Lachlan McNeill Scholarship to enable junior doctors to extend their knowledge, experience or training in ophthalmology. The funds, originally £5000, were provided by Mrs McNeill through her solicitors in January 1990. Mrs McNeill asked that the award be designated with the name of her husband, who had been treated by Dr P. M Kyle before his death. She also requested that herself and Dr Kyle should be involved in the selection of the recipient of the scholarship. College Council agreed to these terms and the sum then accumulated interest for two years, the first award being made at the beginning of 1992. One scholarship is awarded each year. Proposals for work to be undertaken may relate to any aspect of the specialty. Applicants need not be Fellows or Members of the RCPSG.
