Mary Docherty Liddell Wilkie was born in Airdrie on 20 March 1917 and was an arts student at the University of Glasgow , Scotland from 1930 . She graduated MA in 1933 and went on to become a teacher.
On 4 July 1942 she married William M. Herbison, also a teacher, in Airdrie, Lanarkshire. She died in Larkhall on 22 July 1984.
