Scope and Content
This small archive comprises 2 title deeds, papers in relation to the acquisition of land for the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway, and a map drawn up at the time of the sale of the Estate in 1921.
Administrative / Biographical History
Pollok Castle Estate, al. Pollock Estate, comprised extensive tracts of land in Mearns Parish to the East and South of Balgray reservoir.
The Estate had been held by the family of that name since the time of Alexander III.
A Peel tower had existed on the site but was demolished in the later 17th century, its remains incorporated into the extensive mansion. This was damaged by fire in 1882, rebuild thereafter, and demolished in 1947.

Acquisition Information
The papers had been held in the store at Neilston Leisure Centre until they were transferred to the Council Records Manager as part of Accession 2006/03. Item 3/2 was passed to the archives as an unregistered donation.
