  Three letters and a description relating to the emergence of a new genus after some saussurea-type specimens collected by Siehe were studied and didn't fit into any genus in existence at that time.   After graduating with a degree in Botany from the University of Edinburgh in 1951, Andrew John Charles Grierson (1929-1990) was appointed Scientific Officer at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
