Scope and Content
The collection consists of papers and copies of items related to Nigeria that were collected by Smith. These include: articles about Methodism in Nigeria; index of articles on Nigeria; papers on Methodist Missionary Society work in Nigeria; copies of diaries from missionaries in Nigeria (Paul Kingston amd Christopher Hutchinson); copies of letters written by Reverend Alexander F Fenby to his wife, Grace.
Administrative / Biographical History
Stanley W Smith was a Methodist Missionary Society missionary in Nigeria. He worked as an educational missionary and was in Nigeria from 1937 to 1952. On returning from Nigeria he worked as a minister in Hastings (1952), Huddersfield (1955), Bradford (1959), Salford (1962), Manchester (1964) and Hungerford (1966). He retained a keen interest in Nigeria and in missionary and church work throughout his life. Smith retired to Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire.
