• Scope and Content

  Hand-drawn caricature mocking the ruling made by the House of Lords Committee on Privileges in 1875, which confirmed the Earl of Kellie's claim that the earldom of Mar had been newly created in 1565, thus making him Earl of Mar as heir male. The drawing represents the Earl of Kellie dressed as an acrobat and wearing a crown, juggling with a crown with the date '1875', and standing over the three judges that pronounced the judgement, beside whom is the caption: 'three poor fellows who have "no writing or evidence of any kind to assist them!"'. Under the them is another caption reading: 'TRAVESTY as performed before the House of Lords by the great Scotch Acrobat KELLIE'. There is a pencil note on the side reading: 'Lord Chelmsford's very words in his Judgement [for] Kellie, Feb. 25 1875 (re imaginary creation of Mar in 1565)'.
