Scope and Content
A transcription, in several hands of the second half of the seventeenth century, of Sir Thomas Hope of Craighall, Lord Advocate, Major Practicks, to the end of Volume I, part 6, Title 8.
A compendium of Scots law derived from Acts of Parliament and statutes, translated from the Latin for the benefit of the many lawyers who could not read Latin.
Administrative / Biographical History
Sir Thomas Hope (1573-1646) of Craighall, advocate and politician. He was solicitor to the Church of Scotland, became a very successful advocate, then worked for Charles I and was appointed Lord Advocate in 1626 and admitted to the Scottish privy council 2 years later. However he had sympathy with the aims of the covenanters and supported them through his decisions when king's advocate from 1637 to 1643.
