  The World Federation of Mental Health was founded by Dr John Rawlings Rees in 1948 to promote mental health awareness and the prevention of mental disorders, as well as advise on the proper treatment of those with such disorders. It is an international membership organisation founded in 1948 and members include mental health service providers and service users. Rodger was a member of the Inter-Professional Advisory Committee of the World Federation for Mental Health.

  He was also involved with the Scottish Association for Mental Health which was one of the member societies of the World Federation for Mental Health.
