Scope and Content
Rodger was chosen to speak on behalf of the army psychiatrists who served under Dr Rees. Rodger states that he was one of the first six recruited by Rees and worked closely with him in the War Offiice. He addresses Rees by saying, "you gave us the courage, too, in the field of rehabilitation, to develop schemes for convalescent soldiers, returning prisoners, prisoners-of-war, and others, which laid the foundations for much that followed in the Mental Health Services after the war" and that "we have waited a long time to pay this tribute to you".

Administrative / Biographical History
John Rawlings Rees (1890-1969) was a wartime and civilian psychiatrist. He was a member of the group of key figures at the original Tavistock Clinic and became its medical director from 1934. Rees joined the British Army during the second world war and became an army Brigadier, leading a team of army psychiatrists, including Thomas Ferguson Rodger. Rees later founded and became the first President and Director of the World Federation for Mental Health.
