Scope and Content
In one of the letters Pontecorvo explains that he has visited the ICI Research Laboratory at Welwyn after the offer of a job but he decided that "granted adequate facilities for training graduates in research at Glasgow University I should render a better service to genetics in this country bu staying here....". In the same letter he explains to the Principal his committment to researching the genetics of mircoorganisms and its "considerable potentialities" for developments in industry, medicine and agricultural. He goes on to say that Glasgow could lead the way in this field but that he can only develop the Department of Genetics with support from the University. Also includes copy of Pontecorvo's Quinquennial Programme of Research in the Department of Genetics , dated 1947.
