His main reason for applying was a desire to have "a University position free of administrative duties and with moderate teaching duties in order to oncentrate on research" and "the wish to have a University position with status and salary commensurate to the duties". So the reasons for applying seem to be frustration at a lack of progress with his teaching faciltities and status at Glasgow. He explains how he eatablished the Genetics Department at Glasgow and his resarch interests. It is not known if Pontecorvo was successful in his application.
