Correspondence is labelled "Cold War". Following on from similar conversations first started in 1947, Pontecorvo requests the use of the Bacteriology Laboratory to teach Agricultural students in the short term and lays out his plans and requirements for the expansion of the Genetics Wing. Also concerns discussions of the new Virology building on Church Street, Glasgow.
Administrative / Biographical History
Sir Michael Stoker (1918- ) was the first Professor of Virology at the University of Glasgow (the first Chair of Virology to be established at a British university), 1958 to 1968. In 1968, Stoker left Glasgow to become Director of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Laboratories in London, and was subsequently President of Clare Hall, Cambridge.
