Scope and Content
Pontecorvo offers the Principal two ways to "put the matter straight". The first is to offer him a salary increase in line with recommendations. The second was to establish a Chair of Genetics which would benefit both himself and the University. He explains that "In spite of the personal reputation that my collaborators and I have, especially abroad, people do not connect my name with Glasgow". He believed that appointing him as Chair would rectify this problem, as well as attract researchers and lecturers to the University.
