Scope and Content
Pontecorvo received funding from Society for the Protection of Science and Learning in 1938 to help with his PhD studies at the University of Edinburgh after he became strabded there when war broke out. By the 1950s he was keen to show his appreciation for the Society and pay this grant back. The correspondence shows that his donation was to be used to fund the research and compilation of a book about the Society's history which the President, Lord Beverdige, had been keen to do for some time.
