Scope and Content
Oil portrait, quarter length, of John Murdoch, a Master at Glasgow School of Art from 1848 until his death in 1854. Sitter is clean shaven, wearing a black bow tie and white winged collar shirt and dark jacket against a dark background. No visible signature of artist or identifying label on frame; donor believes that it may be a self portrait.

Given to GSoA by Peter Lamberton of Sheffield, a member of the Murdoch family, in November 2017, along with a pencil self portrait of John Murdoch, NMC/1829B, and some family information from contemporary correspondence
