Administrative / Biographical History
Gordon Bottomley (1874-1948), playwright and poet, was born in Yorkshire, and became an invalid with TB from the age of 18. He wrote many verses and plays, and wished to revive the earlier verse dramas of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras; when this failed, he concentrated on producing his own verse dramas. Many of his themes were Scottish and he became involved in community theatre projects in Scotland, where he thought his ideas might be more welcome.
