Administrative / Biographical History
The Eastern Border Development Association was established in 1961 to assist in the sound economic and social development of the area. Following a White Paper on the Scottish Economy in 1966 it was reconstiututed and administered by a Development Commission, who appointed a Development Committee to act as agent in the promotion of a programme of industrial expansion and social development, and the establishment and maintainance of contacts with government bodies and local commercial concerns. The Development Committee technically ceased to exist in May 1975, when its constituent Local Authorities in Scotland were succeeded by the Borders Region Planning Authority on local government reorganisation. www.scan.org.uk/catalogue (accessed on 17/01/11)
